Smart classrooms that keep teaching when the internet drops, with Veritas LMS
An offline learning platform with licensed, encrypted courses that play on Windows and Linux desktops and sync when a connection is available.
Project Overview
We built Veritas LMS, an offline-first smart classroom platform made of two parts: a WordPress plugin that acts as the license and course server, and an Electron desktop app that plays courses with no internet. Many schools and training centres have weak or no connectivity in the classroom, and course publishers need to stop paid content from being copied. Our platform lets admins assign courses and licenses online, then delivers encrypted courses to locked devices that teach offline and send progress back whenever they reconnect.

Challenges
An offline classroom product has to work with no server, yet still protect paid content and report back to the publisher. Each challenge came from that tension.
Teaching with no internet
Classrooms in many regions lose connectivity for hours or days. Courses, dictionary and speech had to be installed on the device so lessons never wait on a network.
Protecting paid course content
Once a course sits on a laptop, it can be copied. Courses are encrypted with AES-256 and only open on a device holding a valid, signed license.
Stopping license sharing and clock tricks
A license key passed around, or a system clock set back, can extend access illegally. Licenses are signed with RSA-SHA256, locked to one device, and checked against time-tamper protection.
Managing many devices from one place
Admins need to see which devices hold which courses and how learners are progressing. The WordPress plugin gives one dashboard for licenses, devices, courses and progress.
Solution
We split the product into a server side and a classroom side. The WordPress plugin issues and verifies licenses, manages courses and devices, and collects progress. The Electron app runs on each classroom machine, activates with a license key, downloads assigned courses, and plays them offline. When the device goes online it syncs: new courses come down, learner progress goes up.
License server plugin
install it in wp-content/plugins/ and manage licenses, devices, courses, progress and settings from a SmartClass menu in WordPress admin.
Signed licenses
each license is signed with RSA-SHA256 so the app can verify it without calling home.
Encrypted courses
course packages use AES-256 and open only on an activated device.
Device locking
a license binds to one machine, and time-tamper checks block clock rollbacks.
Offline tools built in
the installer bundles an offline dictionary and neural text-to-speech.
