Rebuilding a live learning platform on a modern stack without losing a single learner record, with MG360 LMS

We designed and developed School of Humanity’s website to meet the client’s demand for a professional, human-centric digital presence that reflects their values of compassion and social responsibility. The client wanted a platform that clearly showcased their services and projects, built credibility, and provided an easy, engaging experience for diverse audiences including collaborators, donors, and community members. We delivered a clean, responsive design with intuitive navigation, a soft humanitarian aesthetic, and scalable structure, resulting in a website that effectively communicates their mission and supports their future growth.

Project Overview

We rebuilt MG360's learning management system on Laravel 12 and React to replace an ageing codebase that was slow to change and hard to deploy. The client already had years of learner, course and result data in a live MySQL database, so the new platform had to run on that data from day one. We delivered a faster, cleaner LMS with prerendered public pages for search visibility, a containerised setup any developer can run in minutes, and automated tests that check every release before it ships.

Challenges

MG360 needed a modern LMS, but it could not pause teaching to get one. Every challenge came back to the same rule: learners keep working while the platform changes underneath them.

Fast pages that search engines can read

The existing database used the older utf8mb3 character set, while Laravel 12 expects utf8mb4. A direct migration broke foreign keys. We pinned the connection charset so the new app runs on the legacy data with no conversion downtime.

Fast pages that search engines can read

A React single-page app loads quickly after the first visit, but search engines often see an empty page. Public course and landing pages had to rank without giving up the app-like experience inside.

Setup that took days, not minutes

New developers spent too long matching PHP extensions, MySQL versions and folder permissions. Every release risked breaking something on a server that was set up by hand.

Releasing without breaking courses

One bug in enrolment or assessments affects every active learner. The team needed confidence that each release worked before it went live.

Solution

We split the platform into a Laravel 12 API and a React front end built with Vite, both running on the client's existing MySQL data. Learners get a quick, app-like interface. Admins manage courses and content from the same system. Developers ship changes with a one-command setup and a full test run behind every release.

Legacy-safe data layer

the new app reads and writes the original MG360 database, so no learner history was lost.

Prerendered public pages

react-snap renders public pages to static HTML at build time, so search engines index real content.

Secure file storage

course materials and uploads sit in Laravel's linked public storage.

One-command environments

Docker Compose starts the app, the Vite dev server and MySQL together.

Tested releases

PHPUnit covers the back end and Playwright runs end-to-end journeys in a real browser.

Design

Course Catalogue

Learners browse and enrol in courses from fast, search-friendly pages.

Learner Dashboard

Each learner sees enrolled courses, progress and next steps on one screen.

Assessments

Quizzes and tests with automatic scoring and stored results.

Content Uploads

Admins upload videos, documents and images straight into each course.

Admin Control

Manage users, courses and enrolments from one panel.

Built on Existing Data

Every past learner record and result carried over from the old system.

Teck Stack

With technical excellence and extensive engineering experience, Yalantis delivers tailored solutions to meet your specific goals and objectives.

Result

MG360 now runs a modern LMS on its original data, with no learner records lost in the move. Public pages load fast and show real content to search engines, and every release passes automated tests before it reaches learners.
